Dining With DiabetesThis is a featured page

"Dining with Diabetes Class Offered” In order to manage their disease, people with diabetes should keep certain numbers under control by getting tested on a regular basis. Knowing their ABCs (A1C test, Blood pressure and Cholesterol) helps in lowering their chances of having a heart attack, stroke or other complications that can occur as a result of having diabetes. Diabetes is rapidly beoming a major disease affecting millions of Americans.

While many large cities have support groups and information for diabetics, rural areas are limited. Perhaps one of the best ways to keep diabetes under control is to eat a healthy diet. This class is meant as a way to help people who are living with diabetes better manage their disease and bring symptoms under control. Penn State Cooperative Extension is offering a class, “Dining with Diabetes: A Program for Adults with Diabetes and their Families,” which offers nutritional suggestions to help those with diabetes control their disease. In addition, the class emphasizes the importance of the ABC’s and offers testing for these specific health measures.

The class will be held at the Renovo Fire Hall beginning September 30 from 10am-Noon and meeting for the next three Wednesday’s at the same time and a follow up class on December 16, 2009.
The program is looking for one possibly two students to help volunteer at this program, including helping with the class and handing out information. If any students are interested in voluntering please contact Chad Spade, (570) 484-2498 or e-mail at cspade@lhup.edu
